In a recent rally in Las Vegas, Vice President Kamala Harris affirmed her support for the proposal that was put forward by former President Donald Trump to discard federal taxes on tips.

On the 10th of August 2024, Vice President Kamala Harris had her campaign in Las Vegas, where she prompted former President Trump to rip her for using one of his proposals with a crowd of over 12,000 people. 

In Kamala Harris’s words, “It is my promise to everyone here that when I am President, we will continue our fight for working families of America, including raising the minimum wage and eliminating taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers.” 

This proposal came into the limelight one day after the Culinary Workers Union endorsed Harris for the presidency. Ahead of her Saturday rally, Vice President Kamala Harris said one of her campaign plans is to unveil an official economic policy platform. 

Furthermore, in Kamala Harris’s campaign in Las Vegas 

Vice President Kamala Harris says in her campaign speech that she will work with Congress to draft a proposal that includes an income limit as well as other provisions to keep hedge fund managers and lawyers from taking advantage of this policy and constructing their compensations. 

The vice president also says that she will insist on the proposal as well as an increase in the minimum wage. Vice President Kamala Haris and her running mate, Governor Tim Walz, had their final stop in the five battleground states where their party has shown rejuvenating strength after President Joe Biden was out of the presidential race. 

Governor Walz, in his speech to Nevada, said, “Don’t worry, we’re going to be back a lot.”

Trump’s responses to Kamala Harris matching his proposed tax ban on tips

The former president Donald Trump had been touting a tax ban on tips before Vice President Kamala Harris came into the race and called the vice president to go along with the cheering crowd in Nevada, which of the records has one of the highest numbers of tipped workers in America. 

Former President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Kamala Harris, whose “Honeymoon” period is ENDING, and is starting to get hammered in the polls, just copied my NO TAXES ON TIPS policy.” The difference is, that she won’t do it, she just wants it for political purposes!  This was a TRUMP idea – She has no ideas, she can only steal from me. Remember, Kamala has proposed the LARGEST TAX INCREASE IN HISTORY—it won’t happen. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

According to Trump, he says that he was inspired by this idea after meeting with a waiter in Nevada who had just lost a huge amount of her tips due to the taxes on tips.
