Residents of California who are eligible to receive food stamps now known as CalFresh payments from the government will be able to do so next month, from October 1 to October 10. The food stamp/CalFresh payment will be used to ensure that you can purchase food at affordable prices in retail stores across the state while also ensuring that you are a beneficiary of the government’s plan to ensure that you have access to good food that will make you healthier.
The CalFresh Payments come in once a month and are usually received through an EBT card, which can be used to purchase food items at selected stores. The EBT cards are, however, limited only to groceries or other nutritional items. Alcohol, drugs, or other items that do not improve your health will not be covered in payments by the state.
Who is eligible for CalFresh Payment?
The CalFresh payment is open to you if you are a resident of the state of California. However, while residency in California represents a basic requirement, other criteria must be satisfied to ensure that you get to enjoy the benefits of the program. These requirements include the following:
- Your household monthly gross income must be less than $150, with your liquid revenues not above $100.
- Your household monthly income must be less than the combined monthly rent or mortgage payment.
- You are also qualified if you are a migrant or seasonal worker with no more than $100 as liquid resources.
You must meet these conditions if you are an immigrant and would like to apply to receive CalFresh payment.
- You must have a valid Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) status.
- You must also have refugee status, parole, or asylum, or be started the application process for either a U-Visa or a T-Visa.
- You must also be a conditional entrant or someonewith an Iraqi or Afghan Special Immigration Visa (SIV).
You could also qualify if you are a Cuban or Haitian entrant.
If you are an Able-Bodied Adult Without Dependant (ABAWD), you will only get a CalFresh payment for three months a year, unless you can satisfy one of the following conditions.
- You satisfy the work requirement of the ABAWD, which states that you should work for an average of 20 hours a week or 80 hours a month.
- You have an exemption from the ABAWD time limit.
- You live in a county or area with an ABAWD waiver.
If you were unable to exhaust the payment on your EBT card, you can transfer it into the next month’s payment and have more money to spend in the future on food in the next month.
