Inflation rebate: A plan to ease financial strain
A $3 billion fund, which comes from the overabundant sales tax revenue that extremely exceeds historical averages due to inflation, would then be made available as one-shot payments for eligible taxpayers across the state. This measure is proposed by Hochul within the 2025 State of the State Report.
“Due to inflation, New York has generated unprecedented revenue through sales tax,” Hochul explained. “Now, we are returning that money to middle-class families.”
Single taxpayers, heads of households, or married persons filing separately will be qualified for a payment of $300 under the plan if their total income is not more than $150,000 a year. income exceeded $300,000 shall be eligible for $500.

By jumping historical records because of inflation, there is a surplus of $3 billion raised by excess revenues from sales tax. The money will be disbursed to eligible taxpayers statewide as one-time payments.
“That money now goes back to the middle-class families,” Hochul said. “Because of inflation, an unprecedented revenue from sales tax has been created by New York.”

- New York City: Estimated 3.6 million recipients
- Long Island: Approximately 1.3 million beneficiaries
