Countries affected by Musk
Musk’s actions would appear to intend a reorganization of the political landscapes in at least three European countries, including:
- United Kingdom: Musk has been most vocal in his criticism of the UK government, particularly with issues of child exploitation and practices within policing. His call for new elections sent warning signals to British leaders fearing his influence may further embolden far-right movements.
- Germany: In voicing his support for the AfD party, Musk took a stance on the far-right flank of German politics. His comments have already earned him accusations of trying to influence public opinion ahead of critical elections.

The implications of Musk’s influence
Musk’s foray into European politics raises very important questions with regard to the role of plutocrats in democratic processes. The influence he can wield through social media with public opinion and political discourses is a real threat to those established norms in democracies. The only united front has been opposing his meddling, and that is what leaders across Europe must rise to the challenge, fighting false information while keeping dialogue on pressing issues wide open.
Further, with his promotion of far-right movements and rise of populism within European countries, Musk may very well be one of the underpinning forces in further polarizing their societies. His potential to polarize further is a great deal, since he goes on using the same platform to amplify narratives from the fringes.
