The 2024 Democratic campaign of Harris-Walz has surprisingly garnered support from a wide range of groups and most recently, Harris and Minnesota governor, Walz, have gained the support of an evangelical group.
The evangelical group is declaring their support for the Harris – Walz campaign in a bid to gain the support of religious people.
The group held a zoom call on Wednesday, the 14th of August titled “A Zoom Call for All Christians and People of Good Will” and had in attendance, distinguished individuals such as Adam Kinzinger.
Kinzinger is quoted as having, once again, expressed his support for the Harris-walz campaign.
With the support garnered by this faith group, they are motivated to generate active participation from faith based voters.
Based on a report by Pew Research Center, “most voters who are white christians will cast their vote for Republican Donald Trump… more than half of white christians think Trump was a great or good president and don’t think he broke the law in an effort to change the outcome of the 2020 election”
So over 80% of white evangelicals were expected to vote for Trump especially if Trump was running against Biden.
Support for Trump is somewhat high amongst christians.
However, evangelicals for Harris are meant to regain back the support of religious people, particularly, whites who are regular church attenders to vote for Harris and his running mate Walz.
One of the the reasons for this shift is the group’s fall out with the Republican Party’s approach to social issues and other subjects that matters to them.
“Asked God for forgiveness, I’m not sure I have” Trump said when asked in an interview by Republican pollster Frank Luntz during a family leadership summit, back in 2015.
The evangelical for Harris revealed their stance on this via a recent post shared on their X handle.
Harris and Walz, however, have emphasized themes related to the concerns of the common American.
One of such is the issue of social security, as Harris shared a post on her X handle stating that she will expand and protect the social security of Americans.
However, while the evangelicals for Harris’ group seem to be expressing their support for Harris and soliciting for religious groups and individuals to support the Harris – Walz team, the exact percentage of faith based individuals who will cast their vote to the Democratic duo is still unknown.
