Trump and President Biden got into a heated discussion about their golf handicaps of all things at the first presidential debate and Donald Trump took it upon himself to back up his words with action.

At a campaign rally at his Doural Course in Florida, Donald Trump issued out his challenge to his Democratic rival, “I’m also officially challenging crooked Joe to an 18-hole golf match right here on Doral’s Blue Monster, considered one of the greatest tournament golf courses anywhere in the world, one of the great courses of the world.”

“And I will even give Joe Biden 10 strokes a side. Ten strokes, that’s a lot. That means 20 strokes, in case you don’t play golf. And if he wins, I will give the charity of his choice, any charity of his choice, $1 million. And I’ll bet you he doesn’t take the offer.” But what might happen if we actually saw a golf match between the two presidential front running candidate for the Republican  and Democratic party.

Trump’s golfing credentials

Donald Trump is an experienced golfer with a long history of playing the game. He has owned several golf courses around the world, including the famous Trump National Doral in Miami. Trump’s handicap is reportedly around 2.8, which would indicate a highly skilled player.

Note that some golf analysts and sports writers have claimed that Trump’s golf achievements have been garnered using underhand methods and that he is nowhere near as good as he claims to be.

Writer Rick Reilly, author of the book ‘Commander in cheat – How golf explains Trump’ had the following to say.

Biden’s golfing background

Joe Biden is also a golf enthusiast, although his playing frequency has decreased in recent years. He has been known to play with dignitaries and celebrities, showcasing his diplomatic skills on the course. Biden claimed he’d got his handicap as low as 6 while he was Vice President, and Internet sleuths backed that up, finding Biden’s official golfing account where he’s listed as having a handicap of 6.7. However he hasn’t posted a score for a number of years, which would mean his current handicap is likely lower (handicaps go up automatically if you don’t post scores).

Handicap analysis

A golfer’s handicap represents their skill level, with lower numbers indicating better players. Trump’s 2.8 handicap suggests he is a highly skilled golfer, capable of shooting scores in the mid-to-low 70s. In contrast, Biden’s 6.7 handicap indicates he is also a solid player, though not quite at the same level as Trump.

Course selection and conditions

The chosen course would significantly impact the game’s outcome. Trump’s familiarity with his own courses could give him an advantage. However, a neutral course with challenging conditions, such as strong winds or tricky greens, could level the playing field.

The psychological aspect

Golf is a mental game as much as it is physical. Trump and Biden’s personalities and approaches to pressure situations could play a significant role in the outcome.

Trump, known for his confidence and competitive drive, might thrive under the pressure of a high-stakes game. His experience in business and politics has prepared him for high-pressure situations, which could give him an edge.

Biden, on the other hand, is known for his calm and composed demeanor. His ability to remain focused and patient might help him navigate the challenges of the game and potentially pull off an upset.

The intangibles

Other factors could influence the game’s outcome, such as:

  • Physical health and endurance: Both leaders are in their 70s, and the physical demands of golf could impact their performance.
  • Caddie selection: The choice of caddie could provide valuable expertise and support.
  • Equipment and technology: The quality of their golf clubs, balls, and other equipment could affect their gameplay.

A Presidential golf showdown

The stage is set for a thrilling contest. Will Trump’s golfing expertise and competitive drive secure him the win, or will Biden’s determination and calm demeanor lead to an upset? The world would watch with bated breath as these two leaders clash on the golf course, each vying for the $1 million prize and the prestige of being crowned the better golfer.

If Trump and Biden were to face off in a $1 million golf game, Trump’s lower handicap and extensive golfing experience would likely give him an advantage. However, Biden’s determination and diplomatic skills might allow him to stay competitive. Ultimately, the outcome would depend on various factors, including course selection and the leaders’ mental preparation. One thing is certain – this presidential golf showdown would be an unforgettable event.
