Time is running out for Americans affected by the 2020 data breach at Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. to claim compensation. If your personal information was compromised, you could be eligible for up to $6,000. The deadline to submit your claim is February 10, 2025.

What happened in the Arthur J. Gallagher data breach?

Between June 3 and September 26, 2020, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., a global insurance brokerage and risk management firm, suffered a ransomware attack that exposed sensitive personal information, including: 

  • Names 
  • Social Security numbers 
  • Tax identification numbers 
  • Driver’s license and passport numbers Dates of birth 
  • Usernames and passwords 
  • Financial account and credit card information 
  • Medical and health insurance details 
  • Biometric data 

In response, the company has agreed to a $21 million settlement to address the incident.

Who is eligible to file a claim?

You are eligible to file a claim if you received a notification letter from Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. or Gallagher Bassett Services, Inc., indicating that your information was compromised during the breach. Approximately 3.5 million individuals were affected.

What compensation can you receive?

If you are eligible, you can claim:

  • Reimbursement for documented losses: Up to $6,000 for unreimbursed monetary losses directly attributed to the breach, such as fraud, identity theft, or other financial losses. Proof, such as receipts or bank statements, is required.
  • Financial account monitoring: Three-year financial account monitoring service to help detect and prevent further fraud.
  • Alternative cash payment: If you did not incur monetary losses, then you could opt to receive a pro rata share of the remaining settlement fund after payment of all other claims and expenses.
  • Additional payment for California residents: If you lived in California between June 3, 2020 and February 10, 2025, you may be entitled to an additional payment of up to $100 under the California Consumer Privacy Act.

  • Get the claim form: Download the claim form from the settlement website. 
  • Fill out the claim form: Enter your personal details on the claim form and specify the type of compensation you claim. 
  • Documents required: Whenever claiming reimbursement for monetary losses, attach any relevant documentation as evidence, such as receipts or bank statements.

Make sure to have your claim submitted online or postmarked by February 10, 2025.

  • Final Approval Hearing: February 27, 2025

If the court approves the settlement during the final hearing, payments will be distributed to eligible claimants who submitted valid claims.
