If you currently own or used to own a Chevrolet or GMC truck formed in specific model years, you may be entitled to a cash payment as a result of the settlement with General Motors. The $35 million reasons claim that GM manufactured and sold trucks containing high-pressure fuel pumps that were faulty and required repairs. Here’s everything you need to know about who qualifies, how much you could receive, and how to file your claim.
What’s the issue?
At the heart of this class action lawsuit lie the Bosch CP4 fuel injection pumps manufactured by GM and fitted into the 2011-2016 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups installed with 6.6L Duramax diesel engines. The complainants claim that the said pumps are ‘unreasonably fragile’ and prone to failing. In the event of a pump failing, it can lead to the infestation of the fuel system with metal shavings, which can bring about engine damage. This has resulted in a lot of truck owners incurring costly bills.
The automaker GM has rejected the allegations of defective components; however, to avoid further judicial processes, it complied and settled. The settlement, in this case, may also turn out to be favorable to lots of truck owners who will have considerable disbursements.
Who Qualifies for a Payment?
In case you want any kind of compensation, you should have bought a Chevrolet Silverado produced between 2011 and 2016 fitted with a 6.6L Duramax engine and equipped with the Bosch CP4 Fuel Pump. Additionally, the following applies:
- The truck’s origin must be a GM-authorized dealer in the United States.
- The dealer who sells the product cuts off the users’ messages dated between March 1, 2010, and September 13, 2024.
- The jurisdiction of the states that the vehicle for which the truck was purchased is: California, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, New York, Pennsylvania, or Texas.
- Compensation cash is available to present and previous owners of the affected vehicles. If you want to find out whether your truck is part of the settlement, you can check its Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN, on the settlement’s website.
How Much Will You Receive?
Your payout will vary depending on your ownership status and whether or not you have previously made an out-of-pocket payment for a CP4 repair.
- If you incurred CP4 repairs and paid for them without insurance, you will be able to claim for that amount, which is $6,356 to $12,712, only if there are claims made by other parties.
- In the case of former owners of one of the trunks, provided that such persons had not paid for the repair, they can also claim for a lesser amount of cash compensation, which is usually between 400 and 800 dollars.
- In case the debtor is in possession of the vehicle and has not had a CP4 repair made yet, there may be an entitlement for damages for future repairs, and up to $5,000 may be provided for this. This however is subject to certain conditions being adhered to for this payment.
- The final amount, however, can vary slightly depending on the claims that will be approved.
How to File a Claim
There are two methods of filing your claim: online and via post.
You will, however, have to take some time to prepare the necessary documents, receipts, and proof of purchase, as just a sample. You will have the luxury of time, as the period to file the claims shall be for at least six months following the final approval of the settlement.
Management is anticipating approval no sooner than January 21, 2025. As such, it is reasonable as far as your claim submission is concerned to project the time period to extend up till at least July 2025.
