Tim Walz, Minnesota Governor and Kamala Harris running mate for the Democratic party has recently been dragged by netizens in an online controversy after being spotted with a dog, different from Scout, one Walz claims as his pet.
Netizens apparently were confused about the identity of Tim Walz’s dog, scout.
“Which one is scout?” – Hedgewood, a user on the X platform, formally known as Twitter asked.
However, what started off as a seemingly harmless social media post quickly spiraled into a full blown attack on Kamala Harris running mate, Tim Walz. The controversy sparked by ordinary netizens was quickly fueled by MAGA Republican affiliated accounts.
Tim Walz Accused – The “Scout” Scandal
The controversy erupted when conservative social media accounts accused Governor Walz of being dishonest over the identity of his dog, Scout.
USA TODAY’s Mellisa Cruz wrote “ Since Walz entered the 2024 race as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, conservatives have been attempting to find something – anything – to discredit his “Midwestern Nice” public persona”
This controversy started from an X user identified as Dustin Grage who shared a side by side photo of Tim Walz posing with two different dogs with the caption “Yes, this is Tim Walz tweeting about his dog Scout. Only problem is that these are two completely different dogs”.
Dustin Grage, who identifies himself as a Minnesota GOP hype Man, president of Honeyhive Agency and Columnist at TownHall, allegedly claimed that Walz was lying about having a dog named Scout. This spurred netizens, particularly the MAGA Republican affiliated accounts.
The online community mocked Walz for lying about the identity of his dog, subsequently various posts akin to Grage’s post garnered a good amount of attention with various derogatory comments and accusations against Tim Walz.
Fake Scout Allegations Debunked
Regardless of the initial uproar, the accusations against Walz quickly died down as new evidence was unraveled in Tim walz instagram account where he shared a video of himself with the second dog in Garge’s post where Walz said “Couldn’t think of a better way to spend a beautiful fall day than at the dog park. I know Scout enjoyed it”
Apparently, Walz was at a dog’s park with Scout.
Reacting to Grage’s post, Clara Serverson, an X user, said “Hey Dusty, I took the photo of the Governor with the red heeler mix. Guess what? Scout was at the dog park with him that morning. Being purposefully obtuse is dumb, knock it off”.
Does Tim Walz have a Dog?
Yes, Tim waz has a dog named scout. The recent controversy with regards to the identity of his dog scout is all cleared up as the Minnesota governor and Kamala Harris running mate, Walz had only taken his dog out to the dog park, thus taking a photo with another dog which is unavoidable as there are many cute dogs to meet at the park. However, Scout is Wales’ pet.
MAGA Republicans were possibly looking for a way to taint Walz’s reputation but this clearly backfired.
“Scout had his cousin, Tippy, over for a sleepover. Might need to go to the dog park for a swim this morning” – Walz shared this on the 28th of July via an X post.
Apparently, Scout lives with Tim Walz, and has his relatives over sometimes.
