G-1055 Form: what is it, instructions, how to fill it out, when to use and how long does it take to get the Fee Schedule

The G-1055 form is a fee schedule USCIS form with the list of current application fees for immigration forms

The US immigration system requires a great deal of attention to detail, especially regarding application fees. Among several other tools that help the applicants decide on proper fees for various forms, USCIS designates Form G-1055, “Fee Schedule.”

What is Form G-1055?

Form G-1055 is a fee schedule that outlines all of the USCIS forms that have available recent filing fees. This will help someone in correctly submitting an appropriate fee, as well as tendering an application, petition, or request. Fees poorly paid may cause an application to be rejected, and this document is highly significant, especially for individuals falling under immigration processes for whatever reason.

Instructions using the Form G-1055

  1. Get the form: You can access the latest Form G-1055 from the USCIS website.
  1. Identify your form: Find the form you are filing from the list on the fee schedule.
  1. Find the fee: Go to the right of your form number in the fee chart. Note that some forms may have a biometric services fee.
  1. Check for exemptions or waivers: Some forms or applicants may be eligible for fee exemptions or waivers. Form G-1055 indicates which forms have a $0 filing fee and guides fee waivers.

How to fill out Form G-1055

Form G-1055 itself does not require filling out; rather, it serves as a reference guide. However, when preparing your application:

  • Ensure accuracy: Double-check that the fee amount matches the current fee listed on Form G-1055.
  • Payment methods: USCIS accepts various payment methods, including checks, money orders, and credit cards. Ensure your payment is made out to the “US Department of Homeland Security.”
  • Separate payments: If filing multiple forms, provide separate payments for each to avoid processing delays.

When to use Form G-1055

Use Form G-1055 whenever you are filing an application, petition, or request with USCIS. Filing fees are subject to change, so you should always refer to the latest form type when filing a fee with USCIS to ensure you are paying the correct filing fee. Due to a new fee schedule which took effect at USCIS on April 1st, 2024, for the most current version, you should only refer to the latest version of Form G-1055.

Update to fee schedule processing time

The fee schedule periodically undergoes review and updating by USCIS. Sometimes, between proposed changes and the implementation period, there is also time for comments and review by the public. In one instance, the fee adjustments to take place on April 1, 2024, had been issued well in advance to give sufficient time for applicants to get ready for the changes.

Recent updates and considerations

On January 31, 2024 USCIS published a Final Rule adjusting certain immigration and naturalization benefit request fees on behalf of applicants for the first time since 2016. The new fees took effect for filings postmarked on or after April 1, 2024. It is very important to note that the instructions for each form no longer list the filing fee; instead, applicants should refer to Form G-1055 for the most updated fee information.
