With less than 24 hours remaining until the United States is called upon to elect the next President in 2024, the electoral vote would be a great factor to analyze. Amongst the more important and most populated states are: California, Florida, New York, and Texas. These states are very commanding in electoral votes, and their voting greatly determines the outcome of such an election. This article looks at the number of electoral votes that each of them has and their importance in the 2024 election.
California: The electoral giant
Electoral votes
California currently stands as the most electoral vote-rich state in the country, with 54 electoral votes in the general election of 2024. This is a result of its two Senate seats in addition to 52 House seats, given that California has the most people in the country.
Historic importance

Current political climate
With our CBS News Battleground Tracker analysis, we consider California firmly in the Democratic column for the 2024 election. Still, both parties are homing in on some of the key issues driving California voters: climate change, healthcare, and economic inequality.
Florida: The swing state
Electoral votes
For the 2024 election, Florida has a total of 30 electoral votes and is considered by many to be one of the most important and influential swing states. Based on the two Senate seats and 28 House seats, that is how the system decides upon such an allocation.
Historical trends

It proved to be the determining state in the 2000 election, and since then, its electoral votes have always been up for high contention in any election. In 2016, Donald Trump took Florida by the slimmest of margins. He did this again a second time in 2020. The fact that Florida remains what is termed a swing state makes both want all its electoral votes.
Dynamics currently

Texas is the second-most extensive state in the 2024 election, with 40 electoral votes based on its two Senate seats and 38 House seats.
Demographic trends
