Kamala Harris’ latest move to steal votes from Trump is to agree to an interview on Fox News on Oct. 16 – These are the key battleground states

Kamala Harris has agreed to have an interview with Fox News journalist, Bret Baier's

Looking to alter the dynamics among undecided voters in this very critical presidential election period in 2024, Vice President Kamala Harris has agreed to an interview with Fox News to be aired on October 16. This is a serious shift in her media strategy in order to reach out to a larger audience, especially in key battleground states where competition against former President Donald Trump is very aggressive.

The interview to air 6.P.M ET on Bret Baier’s Special Report

The interview below marks Harris’s first formal appearance on Fox News, a network that has been very friendly to conservative causes over the years. By going onto a right-leaning platform, the Democratic nominee Harris accepted her campaign’s recognition that outreach beyond traditional democrat strongholds will be required for this election.

After criticism that she avoids tougher interview formats, Harris’s media presence has picked up in recent weeks. One aspect of pushing back against those framing her as out of touch with the mainstream electorate, going on Fox News gives Harris an opportunity to pitch her policies directly to a segment of likely undecided voters and some Republicans.

Key battleground states

This election, like so many before it, promises to focus attention on a number of key battleground states that the candidates will assuredly spend more time in than others. The following states are identified as crucial for electoral votes, demographically representative of the country as a whole, and with important local issues.

  • Arizona
    • Electoral Votes: 11
      • Importance: To put it another way, Arizona moved from complete Republican monopoly to proper battleground. This reflects both demographic and attitudinal changes in the state. The issue of immigration is emotive here, and hence both candidates will be keen to reassure concerns about the border and economic opportunity.
  • Michigan
    • Electoral Votes: 15
      • Importance: it was a historic Democratic state, but in 2016 Trump won by the thinnest of margins, making it a battleground state. Michigan also has one of the country’s largest Arab-American populations, many of whom have been highly visible and vocal in their demands on everything from foreign policy to economic justice. The state would thus prove critical in Harris’s outreach.
  • Pennsylvania
    • Electoral votes: 19
      • Importance: Pennsylvania generally is considered the keystone in presidential elections and would be a terribly important state for either party. Harris has consistently had a slight lead there in polling, but the race has remained competitive with a diverse electorate, including urban cores like Philadelphia and conservative-leaning rural swaths.
  • Wisconsin:
    • Electoral Votes: 10
      • Importance: Wisconsin has become significant in the recent elections as its voting trend has come very close to the nation’s trend. The state comprises working-class voters who are more economically conscious and hence job creation and increasing wages are a great concern for both candidates.
  • North Carolina
    • Electoral Votes: 16
      • This is significant as, although North Carolina is considered to lean Republican, it is still a rather competitive state. Among this state’s demographics are growing numbers of young and minority voters who, if appropriately mobilized, are capable of impacting the outcome of an election.
  • Georgia
    • Electoral Votes: 16
      • Importance: Georgia was crucial to Biden’s victory in 2020 and is very much so today to both parties. It is one of the states currently registering more Black voters, as well as young people, which makes it important to Harris’s campaign strategy.
  • Nevada
    • Electoral Votes: 6
      • Importance: Nevada is important to Democrats because of its Latino population. Apart from that, all voters rate between most to very important that recovery of the economy due to COVID-19 must be prioritized. It is of importance to either candidate to have an ironclad plan of action as regards job growth and stability of the economy.
