MAGA supporters condemns ABC News over Debate bias as Trump turns down a second debate at FOX News

The presidential debate pitting Donald Trump against Kamala Harris is an engulfing outcry of condemnation, most specific to the strongists of Trump, who criticized ABC News for being biased. The debate moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis was termed as “three against one” by the camp of Trump, since they felt that the moderators were out to get Trump and give Harris an easy time. This feeling then spread to all social media, where many voices from the conservative side started calling for an investigation regarding the fairness of the debate.

Claims of a biased moderator

Following the debate, Trump and his confidants maintained that ABC News was demonstrably biased in favor of Harris. They claimed that ABC fact-checked Trump a number of times, while Harris was allowed to make statements without fact-checks. Notably, Trump was overheard to comment on his Truth Social that “I thought that this was my best debate, EVER, and certainly a great one considering that it was THREE ON ONE!”. Echoes of similar sentiments have come from a few conservative commentators, including Megyn Kelly, who also referred to the debate as one of the most biased she had ever witnessed.

Adding to the perceived unfairness were claims that Harris had been provided with some of the debate questions in advance. One individual on social media – in a claiming-to-be-a-whistleblower sort of way – indicated there would soon be an affidavit swearing the Harris campaign had access to “sample questions” from the debate. This was repeated by several of the MAGA folk before anything existed showing evidence for the claim.

Calls for investigation of the Debate

It wasn’t limited to social media against ABC News. Mark Penn, an adviser for Bill and Hillary Clinton, asked for an internal investigation into the debate’s moderation. He added that an independent review of the moderators’ communications could reveal if there was, in fact, an attempt to affect the outcome of the debate. Penn’s remarks reflect the growing unease on the part of some political analysts about the impartiality of media organizations during election cycles.

The aftermath of the debate has raised a question about the integrity of the electoral process, as some conservatives have been quick to point out that it’s the media that really shapes the public’s perception. As one critic points out: “There is a strong need for impartial journalism amidst a politically charged environment in which so much has been placed at stake.”

Trump rejects another Debate on FOX News

Following the debate, Harris’s campaign pushed for a rematch, offering Fox News as a host. Trump flatly refused, saying he “evidently won” the first debate and would not show up for a second. He said, “When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are ‘I WANT A REMATCH,'” indicating that Harris’s request for a second debate was evidence of her insecurity in the wake of their first confrontation.

Trump’s decision not to participate in a second debate has met with several responses. Some Republicans have urged him to redo the debate with Harris, but at this point, Trump appears to be relying on his perceived victory to carry him through the campaign. The polls immediately after the debate favored neither candidate over the other, as many claimed that Harris did a better job during the debate-a fact which Trump also appears to brush off.

Public reaction and implications

Reactions by the public to Trump’s refusal to debate again have been mixed. Supporters hail it as a strategic decision, while critics say that it reflects an unwillingness to engage the voters on critical issues. Second, Trump claimed he won the debate, which many polls came out to contradict, and begged questions about his campaign’s approach to voter engagement and transparency.

With the election looming, the ramifications of the debate and the resulting controversy may have a serious impact on voter attitudes. Controversy at ABC News and of its moderators could well play to Trump’s base, furthering their sense of a biased news world. Conversely, it might turn off undecided voters, who often look for a balanced approach to the candidates.
