Bret Baier, a well-known anchor at Fox News has said something in defense against critics who speculated that edits would be made on his forthcoming interview with Vice president Kamala Harris, in order to present the Vice president in a good light. The interview which was conducted some time earlier and is to be included in the edition of Special Report on Wednesday evening has come under fire by some quarters who are opponents of Harris.
Accusations of soft ball questions for Harris
Some of the opponents went so far as to state their complaints on X, accusing him to have fed questions for the Vice president in advance, to have asked her soft ball questions or to have edited the interview in a way that she comes out looking good. These allegations by some right-wing persons and Trump’s supporters, fit into a wider accusation such that every other mainstream media has a soft spot for Harris and the other Democrats.
In reaction to this growing criticism, Baier told users that he would deal with the issues on X. He stated that the interview is filmed prior to its airing, but will be shown “as-live” which literally means that the whole interview will be aired with no editing done or cuts made. “No one has any questions. Except me,” Baier said while sounding confident, as he dismissed accusations that the Vice president would get the questions ahead of time. He also told the audience that there would be no breaks in airing the interview so that it would not be interrupted by any advertisements.
Baier also explained the logistics behind the pre-recording, noting that Harris’s team had scheduled the interview between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m., just before his 6:00 p.m. show. As a result, the interview needed to be recorded, but he emphasized that viewers would see the entire exchange as it occurred, without any edits.

Baier refutes claims over Harris interview
Some critics on X also speculated that Fox News made significant concessions to Harris’s team in exchange for the interview, suggesting that this could lead to a diluted or less challenging conversation. Baier quickly dismissed these claims, reiterating that no special accommodations or compromises had been made.
The interview of Harris on Special Report is another appearance in the media blitz aimed at increasing her appeal to the voters, especially the independents. Of late, Vice president has been seen on different types of shows, this can be The View, Call Her Daddy, The Breakfast Club, or even Late Night with Stephen Colbert among others. The strategy is to widen the audience range and the input vis-a-vis the drawing nearer to the elections.
At the same time, Donald Trump who was once the president remains a regular guest on fox news and even more recently participated in a town hall of that channel. However, rather than just the normal turn up on Fox himself, Trump has also canceled or refused to appear in other mediums of mainstream media and even skipped the third presidential debate. Trump too has not spared Harris and still lambasts her while risk free, alleging her to be someone who speaks off a script or hides behind a teleprompter while being interviewed. He has also claimed that advocacy towards her by other platforms has reached excessive levels.

When Baier assures the interview will be unedited and will air all troubles without distortion, he echoes the concern of openness in the interview attesting to his respect for the audience. As the space remains rather divided towards the two sides, such interviews are very important for expressing the views of both parties to the mass electorate at that time.
