President-Elect Donald Trump has been an epicenter of American politics, as his every decision becomes news. Recently, he has declared that two personalities from his first administration, Mike Pompeo and Nikki Haley, will not be part of his administration which is still in formation. A very surprising decision that caused a number of speculations and analyses, coming next. Below, we have listed the reasons that compelled Trump to exclude these two key members from his upcoming cabinet.
Nikki Haley’s tense tenure
Nikki Haley, the retired U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, was really very challenged during her time in office.According to a report by The Washington Post, her relationship with Trump worsened much as a result of their different opinions concerning the UN. Trump often maligns the organization, while Haley, as the ambass ador, navigates complexities representing the U.S. in an institution her boss criticizes.
In addition, according to Mike Pompeo’s memoirs, Haley “plotted” with Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump to become the vice president-an undermining move against Trump himself. As to whether this is true or not, such a rumor would likely have contributed to a no-confidence feeling between Trump and Haley and thus make her less than desirable for any future cabinet position that Trump might have had.
Mike Pompeo’s criticisms
Even former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, once considered one of Trump’s closest allies, ultimately became in poor graces with the former president. Most notably, perhaps, Pompeo jabbed at the financial management of the Trump administration, stating that the country required better fiscal management while on Fox News Sunday. Axios writes that such critiques go over rather poorly with Trump, who doesn’t typically react well to any semblance of dissent emanating from his ranks.
Shifting alliances
The political world is fluid; shifting alliances certainly hold true for those within the GOP. There are reports that Mike Pence, another stalwart of Trump’s administration, has poached top advisers from Haley’s team in preparation for the 2024 GOP primaries.
This represents a realignment of loyalty and strategic positioning, placing Haley even further from the core of Trump’s inner circle. Trump said and I quote “I will not be inviting former ambassador, Nikki Haley or former Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo to join the Trump administration which is currently in formation.”
A united team
Trump is all about loyalty and a united front in terms of leadership style. With Haley and Pompeo, there have been and can be controversies and criticisms that disturb coherence in his team. Trump has kept them out of his cabinet to form a cabinet which is entirely on the same page as him and which will not cause internal conflict.
