Milwaukee, which is considered a Democratic stronghold, will be hosting the Republican 2024 convention. The four-day event kicks off today, Monday, July 15. Despite the attempted assassination of Trump just two days ago the convention is going ahead, so far with no issues.

2024 Republican National Convention

The Republican convention is held to officially nominate the parties presidential candidate. This year, 2024, Donald Trump will be chosen as the Presidential candidate for the Republican Party. The convention has about 2,400 delegates from all over the country who are there to witness this nomination.

Normally, the delegates are meant to vote during the convention, but in this case, the vote would only be a formality as Trump already won the nomination in March, where he earned 2,243 delegates at the end of the primary process. After the nomination during the convention on Thursday night, Trump will be allowed to accept the nomination.

This will mark Trump’s third acceptance since 2016. He was nominated in 2016 when he won the election and became the president of the United States. Also, in 2020, he was nominated by the Republicans in a bid to continue as president, in his second term, however, he lost to Biden. This will be his third nomination and acceptance and he wants to come back to the presidential seat to complete his second term.

The Republicans intend to take a new stance on abortion during the convention, leaving the issue to be decided by individual states. During the convention, other proposals will also be made, such as; building a missile defense shield over the U.S., promises of tax cuts, and mass deportations of people who are in the US illegally.

Of course, the most anticipated was the pick of the vice presidential candidate by Trump. The 2024 Republican Vice presidential candidate is JD Vance. He was picked by Trump today, Monday, July 15, during the Republican Convention.
