By and large, the 2024 US presidential election between former President Donald Trump and Vice-President Kamala Harris had been in the nation’s consciousness for quite a while now. The latest results in what has been a keenly contested fight keep the country on its toes as the world waits with bated breath to find out who shall pilot the affairs of that country for the next four years and just recently Donald Trump has been confirmed as the 47th President of the United States of America. Here is a breakdown of the state-by-state results as of November 5, 2024.
Swing states: The deciding factor
The swing states have always taken the decisive part in the United States presidential elections, and this time in the 2024 election it wasn’t an exception. According to the BBC estimate, Donald Trump is expected to win three out of seven pivotal swing states and hence stands at a point from where he can taste victory.
Florida
With 29 electoral votes, Florida has always been a fighting state for any election on the ticket, and that was no different going into 2024. The latest projection has Donald Trump taking Florida with the most significant boost he has needed in the race to the presidency.
Pennsylvania
Another swing state with 20 electoral votes, Pennsylvania has equally been aggressively pursued by campaigns from both candidates. But France 24 has reported that Trump leads in Pennsylvania, a development yet to be brought to rest with the final result announcement.
Michigan and Wisconsin
Michigan and Wisconsin also create a point of focus in the election, having 16 and 10 electoral votes, respectively. In these states as well, early results show that it has been a close race between President Trump and Senator Harris because of the respective firm stands taken by them. In fact, per the Financial Times Live Results map, these states are too close to call at this time.
Key state results
Ohio
Ohio is one of the historic ‘bellwether’ states, carrying 18 electoral votes. With this update, Trump won Ohio and carried its electoral votes. That, of course, does align with historical voting trends between the 2020 and 2024 elections, Metro.co.uk writes.
Georgia
While Georgia has been another close race, with 16 electoral votes. So far, the initial results have shown a neck-to-neck race whereby each candidate holds on to stronghold support. The final outcome in Georgia may perhaps prove important in the determination of the overall winner.
Arizona
But over these last few cycles, Arizona with its 11 electoral votes-has become one of those hotly contested states. According to the Associated Press, results are still coming in, but Trump does have a slight edge.
That leaves North Carolina with 15 electoral votes as the only state yet to make the final count. From the preliminary data, it is a very close race presently with small margins between Trump and his rival.
When will we know the final results?
The results will be published at different times. “Counting needs to be highly detailed and is likely to take at least days for the declaration of the Harris-Trump race because so many mail ballots have to be processed,” The Guardian said. The Telegraph added that this year’s race was most likely to be one of the most bizarre and historically consequential.
At this stage, with the current status, Donald Trump is inching his way forward in a number of key states, hence setting him up for the win for a second term as President of the United States. Many states are still counting votes, and some of their races are also close to being called. The next couple of days are going to be rather important in defining who exactly the eventual winner of the 2024 US presidential election will be.
In the past hour, Donald Trump has been declared the winner of the US election 2024 along with JD Vance, his Vice Presidential candidate as confirmed by the Daily Mail.
