Big Lots is closing stores in California: Here are all the locations of the closed stores by county

The popular discount retail chain Big Lots will shut down stores nationwide, including about 50 stores in California. There is no specified closing date for now. 

Big Lots has 1,400 stores throughout the country, which includes 109 stores in California. California is the second state with the highest number of Big Lots stores after Texas.

According to the company, inflation, the cost of goods, and competitive and economic pressures led to “substantial doubt” in their stores’ operations. The net sales for the first quarter of fiscal year 2024 totaled $1.009 billion, a 10.2% decrease compared to $1.124 billion for the same period last year.

“While we made substantial progress on improving our business operations in Q1, we missed our sales goals due largely to a continued pullback in consumer spending by our core customers, particularly in high ticket discretionary items. We remain focused on managing through the current economic cycle by controlling the controllables. As we move forward, we’re taking aggressive actions to drive positive comp sales growth in the latter part of the year and into 2025 and to maintain year-over-year gross margin rate improvements, all driven by progress on our five key actions,” President and CEO of Big Lots Bruce Thorn said in June.

Which Big Lots stores are closing in California?

In Sacramento, a large ” closing” sign is placed on a Big Lots location, which is about four miles from Sacramento State. Other stores have also stated their intentions to close their websites.
