Ford recalls more than 270,000 Broncos and Mavericks for power loss problem – Check affected models and years of manufacture

Ford Motor Co. has issued a recall for 272,827 of its popular Bronco and Maverick models due to a critical power-related issue that could cause the vehicles to stop unexpectedly or fail to start. The problem has been traced to a 12-volt battery manufactured by Camel Battery of China, which contains internal manufacturing defects. According to the National Highway and Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), these defects include weld failures that can lead to open circuits, disrupting the vehicle’s electrical system. While the issue poses a significant safety risk, Ford has confirmed that there have been no reports of accidents, fires, or injuries related to the defect.  

The affected vehicles were produced between February 2021 and October 2023. Ford stopped using the problematic batteries in October 2023 after identifying the manufacturing flaws. The company estimates that only 1% of the recalled vehicles are likely to experience the defect. However, given the potential severity of the issue—such as sudden power loss while driving—Ford is taking no chances and has initiated a widespread recall to address the problem.  

Owners of the affected vehicles are being urged to contact their local Ford dealerships for repairs. The remedy involves software updates designed to improve the detection of battery issues and provide drivers with early warnings.
