Ford Motor Company has decided to recall a total of 295,449 diesel-engine trucks that have been fitted with defective fuel pumps, which can cause sudden loss of power and consequently may increase risks for accident occurrence. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced this recall on Tuesday, referring to the possible biodiesel deposit accumulation on pump drivetrain roller components, which today could cause failure of the high-pressure fuel pump.
During that time, drivers are likely to experience effects such as longer crank times to start the engine, a Check Engine Light (CEL), unusual engine noises, or perhaps loss of engine power. Ford said that although these symptoms may be concerning and alarming, “in regard to communication on Tuesday, we are not aware of any crashes, injuries, or fires that are connected to this condition.

Ford’s history of recall challenges
This string of recall notices has come to the fore around scrutiny of how Ford handled previous safety issues. As far back as November, the company was fined by NHTSA $165 million for delaying actions regarding a recall that was issued in 2020 concerning more than 620,000 vehicles within the U.S. due to defects with their rear-view cameras. The recall, which now covers over 700,000 vehicles across North America, also shows that such action needs to be better done for the sake of drivers and passengers.
Apart from this, the NHTSA has also initiated investigations about other recalls at Ford, including those affecting the 2019-2020 Ford Expedition and the models 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Maverick.
At a time when Ford fights to sort out these challenges, it is still necessary for drivers to ensure they are aware of safety recalls that may concern their cars and act promptly on any repair notices they receive.
