JCPenney, a national retailer, has announced the closure of some of its mobile stores in Alabama. This news did not come as an utter surprise as there has been closure of JCPenney stores in 2020 as well as 2021. According to the JCPenney representative, this closure was a necessary step for the long-term success of the company.

The closure of these stores in 2020 was due to the store optimization strategy which was adopted by JCPenney in May 2020, to position the company for better, sustainable, and profitable growth.

JCPenney was purchased by Brookfield Property Partners and Simon Property Group in 2020. There have been a lot of changes following this purchase, some of which included the closure of some stores in 2020 and 2021.

This year, JCPenney has announced the further closure of a few stores in some states, including Alabama. The placard sign “Closing” is already visible on the stores that will be closed by September 22, 2024. With the closure of these stores, there will be only 9 stores left in Alabama.

According to JCPenney’s representative, the lease terms of the store’s location cannot be continued and every effort made to find another location has proven abortive. He expressed his gratitude to the loyal customers of the JCPenney stores and he apologised for any inconvenience that the closure might cause to these customers.

The JCPenney company has about 650+ stores across the U.S. and Puerto Rico. It also has a flagship store, jcp.com This is to ensure that its valued customers have access to brands and merchandise of their choice and liking.

However, they also have about 175 stores closing since 2020. These closed stores cut across Alabama as well as other states in the U.S.
