On Tuesday, Lowes Foods, a supermarket chain, announced the closure of three stores next month in Raleigh. According to a press release, Lowes Foods said the closures are part of a growth strategy as they prepare to open a store in Aiken, S.C., next month. The stores that will be closed are in the following locations;

  • Lowes Foods at 8201 Rowlock Way at Cornerstone Commons in Raleigh, N.C., off of Glenwood Avenue
  • Lowes Foods at 805 Pine Grove Drive in Wilmington, N.C.
  • Kj’s Market at 110 U.S. Highway 52 in Moncks Corner, S.C.

Lowes Foods, a prominent grocery chain based in the Southeastern United States, has been a staple for many communities since its founding. The company’s chain has significantly expanded over the years. The chain is known for its focus on local products and community engagement. However, Lowes Foods has been facing challenges in recent years, which has prompted a need for a strategic reassessment.

Reasons for Closure

The closures are part of a growth strategy as Lowes Foods prepares to open a store in Aiken, S.C., next month. This was according to a press release by Lowes stores. They further explained that this will mark Lowes Foods’ first entry into the Augusta, Georgia, market. The closure is part of the parent company’s broader growth strategy to invest in new projects and remodel existing ones.

The president of Lowes Foods, who also doubles as the head of retail in Alex Lee’s company, Tim Lowe, has offered his apologies to the customers in the locations where the stores will be closed.

He has also offered to hire employees from these stores. In a press release, he said; “We are working closely with store hosts who work at the three stores slated to close to offer them positions at other stores where possible.”

Stores to be Closed in Raleigh

Three Lowes Foods stores at different locations in Raleigh will be closed in August as part of the growth strategy for the company. These stores include;

Although this closure will affect the communities in which these stores are located, the closure is however, for the greater good of the company, as the president of Lowes Foods, Tim Lowe, didn’t hide his excitement about the future of Lowes Foods as well as other businesses under the parent company, Alex Lee.
