Mr. Christmas recalls wireless controllers for decorative tree lights due to fire risk – These are the affected models

Fire risk spurs recall of holiday tree light controllers sold at major retailers.

Mr. Christmas has announced a recall of around 44,600 wireless tree light controllers. The recall is due to a fire hazard associated with the white wireless receivers that come with the product and can overheat when plugged into an outlet, posing a serious danger. 

Controllers were available in stores like Walmart and Target as well as Cracker Barrel and sold on their sites from July to November 2024, with a price range of $25-$40. Each version of the controller has its own design:

  • Walmart and Cracker Barrel models feature a festive peppermint candy shape with a candy cane-shaped lever for turning the lights on and off. They are labeled as “Christmas Light Controllers.”
  • Target’s Wondershop™ model has a square design with red, green, and white decorative balls and is labeled “Tree Lighting Switch.”

The devices bear the tag “Mr. Christmas” and have the model numbers: 39611, 39612, or 39630. All versions come with a white wireless receiver that plugs into an electrical outlet and connects to the holiday tree lights.

Stop using these controllers immediately, and get in touch with the store to get a complete refund, non-academic.

Incidents, Manufacturer, and Consumer Action

Up to now, Mr. Christmas has received 10 complaints of overheating receivers, one of which has caused a fire. Fortunately, there will be no reports of injuries.

The controllers recalled are those imported into the U.S. from China by major distributors for the following: Wondershop™ sold by Target Inc., Mr. Christmas-branded merchandise sold by Walmart Inc., and Cracker Barrel-branded products sold by CBOCS Distribution Inc.
