Nearly 138,000 beds sold on Amazon and Walmart were recalled: they can collapse or break while in use and cause serious injuries

Amazon and Walmart have decided to recall over 138,000 beds after they were tagged dangerous in the event of a collapse or getting broken, which could lead to serious injury to the user.

The stores were ordered to stop selling the beds after the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) discovered the beds to have become unsafe due to the possibility of breaking, sagging, or collapsing during use, causing harm to their users and putting them at risk of an injury.

Why are the beds being recalled?

The Lucid-branded platform beds are being recalled by CVB, a Utah-based importing company responsible for importing the beds from Malaysia where they are made, after it was discovered that the bed could cause injury to users.

To paint a clearer picture, there have been 245 recorded incidents of the bed collapsing or breaking while in use, which has caused a further 18 injuries to customers within the period. These incidents are not limited to American citizens, as there are also about 11 recorded bed incidents in Canada, albeit with no injury recorded.

The company has stated that the beds are a version that has stopped being produced since 2021 but has continued to be sold in stores across the United States and Canada as recently as April 2024, hence the reason for the collapse and the incidents that have been recorded.

The beds, which are produced in Malaysia and then imported into the United States and Canada through CVB, have already sent 137, 000 recalled in the US and a further 890 recalled in Canada, in what is a step taken to ensure that further damages will be prevented for customers who use the beds.

Other stores across the United States and Canada, including Macy’s, Bed Bath & Beyond, eBay, Home Depot, Wayfair, and Target, have also recalled the beds.

How to get a replacement

Customers who have purchased the bed in either of the countries will be able to get a new bed frame upon returning the bad bed for free. This will be compensation from the company, but to do this, they will be required to do the following:

  • You must contact Lucid for a replacement frame, which will be given at no cost.
  • You must inscribe the word “recalled” on your Lucid bed support with a permanent marker and then send the photos to Lucid.
  • To get more information regarding the recall process, you can visit the company’s website.

The recall will be monitored across the United States and Canada to ensure they are done properly to prevent additional damage or injury averted for citizens of both countries who have bought them already.
