QVC recalls 1.1 million pairs of oven gloves – More than 90 people suffered burns with these models recalled by the brand

Burn hazard alert: QVC recalls over 1 million Temp-tations oven gloves.

QVC, the famous live shopping entertainment company, has now initiated a big recall of an estimated 1.1 million Temp-tations oven mitts. These are products that were imported from China, sold under the QVC brand, and found to be a burn hazard as they are deemed to have insufficient heat protection. This recall will be announced on the notice posted by CPSC regarding the issue severity and risks to consumers on Thursday.

The gloves were packed in singles, twos, or bundled products that included drying mats or trivets. They were available across QVC’s platforms, including its website, televised shopping programs, and digital marketplaces, between the months of August 2018 and August 2024. They cost between $4 and $13 for single pairs and $14 to $26 for bundled sets.

Safety concerns: Reports and risks

Following complaints made by 162 consumers about the gloves not providing sufficient heat protection, QVC has recalled the gloves. Of these reports, 92 incidents reported minor burns as a result of using the product. It is thus inferred that using the gloves can indeed be dangerous. Those customers who have bought the gloves are definitely supposed to stop using them.

Burn injuries, even small ones, can be extremely painful and may prove dangerous for the normal user, particularly when such an owner is dealing with hot cookery. Hence, the initial reports show that the product has completely fallen short of meeting even the most essential standards for safety on the part of the oven glove, which usually intends to protect the user from high temperatures.

QVC has reiterated that aggrieved clients will have to contact them for processing their refund. To this end, a toll-free customer service line has been set up at QVC, accessible to the security of your home at 888-770-7119, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Moreover, customers can visit the recall page online to understand procedures and get their refunds.

QVC’s broader safety record and corporate oversight

QVC as a company was formed in 1986, and it is known worldwide, besides operating in other countries such as the US, the UK, Germany, Japan, and Italy. It boasts of 13 television channels that pipe live shopping entertainment into more than 200 million homes worldwide.

Despite this reputation, QVC and its parent, Qurate Retail Inc., have occasionally faced censure for producing unsafe products. In addition to QVC, its parent operates the Home Shopping Network (HSN), which in 2023 federal regulators fined $16 million over HSN’s failure to inform the public on time about a defect that caused injuries and dozens of complaints from the customers.

Thus, the fine, along with the recall of the Temp-tations oven gloves, points toward the fact that Qurate needs to implement tougher quality control measures in its operations. The safety of products will be not only a legal requirement but also a long-term benefit because it helps in maintaining customer confidence.

What customers can learn from this recall

This reacquaints the disgruntled consumer with the need to always keep an eye out for product safety. Safety hazards in the home include appliances that operate at high temperatures or via electricity; these should be handled with caution, in particular, to report any signs of defects immediately. The CPSC has an excellent resource page for checking recall status by providing access to reports of safety concerns helping ensure hazardous products are quickly discovered
