Red Lobster and Hooters have joined the list of several companies that have announced the closure of some of their locations over the last few weeks.
Why is Red Lobster closing?
Red Lobster, known for providing affordable seafood dishes to middle-class families in the United States filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2024. Following this, several media outlets have reported the closure of at least 50 Red Lobster locations across the US. The seafood company plans to auction off kitchen equipment to supply liquidators at the closed locations.
According to CNN, the company suffered a $12.5 million operating loss in the fourth quarter of 2023, despite steady shrimp production. Filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy should ensure the continuous running of the company while it reorganises funds to pay off its existing debt.

Why is Hooters closing?
Hooters is closing down 44 stores in select locations due to “pressure from current market conditions”, according to the restaurant. The Atlanta-based company, however, said it would keep opening new storefronts locally and internationally while launching Hooters frozen products.
