Walmart to offer free health screenings and affordable vaccinations – These are the Americans who will be able to get them starting this date

Wellness Day at Walmart will be Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. local time.

The event will take place at nearly 4,600 Walmart pharmacies nationwide and offers free health screenings and low-cost vaccinations to communities.

Comprehensive health screenings available

During Walmart Wellness Day, attendees can receive a variety of free health screenings, including:

  • Glucose testing: This test will evaluate blood sugar levels to diagnose risks for diabetes.
  • Cholesterol screening: This test will check cholesterol levels, important in monitoring heart health.
  • Body mass index (BMI) measurement: This will calculate body fat for height and weight.
  • Blood pressure check: This will reveal hypertension, a major determinant of cardiovascular health.

Participants at some locations will also have the opportunity for vision screenings, in-store giveaways, and the chance to see and learn about various wellness-related products to enhance their health experience.

Affordable immunizations available

Walmart’s Wellness Day provides vaccinations that are needed when considering affordability. Vaccinations currently provided include:

  • Flu (Influenza)
  • COVID-19
  • HPV (Human Papillomavirus)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
  • Pneumonia
  • Tetanus
  • Varicella (Chickenpox/Shingles)
  • Whooping Cough (TDAP)
  • Hepatitis A & B

Some of these vaccinations are among the important ones that prevent infectious diseases, recommended for different age groups or health conditions.

Consult professional pharmacists

Wellness Day will give customers and their families an opportunity to have a worth-your-time discussion with Walmart pharmacists. Discussion topics will include:

  • Healthy lifestyle: Nutrition, exercise, and wellness practices.
  • Medication management: Proper use of medications and potential side effects.
  • Recommended vaccinations: Individual advice on which vaccines are recommended, based on age, health status, and lifestyle.
  • Women’s health: Nutrition and health topics relevant to pregnant women and women of childbearing age including folic acid, which is a nutrient needed for the proper development of the fetus.

On-Site testing and home test kits

Beyond screenings and vaccinations, testing is available at Walmart pharmacies in 21 states for strep throat, flu, or COVID-19, with same-day treatment options. Combined COVID-19 and Flu A/B home test kits are available over the counter to empower families to self-detect infections earlier and get the care they need.

Walmart: committed to community health

Since 2014, Walmart has helped provide more than 5 million free health screenings to people across the country through its Wellness Day events. As more than 4,000 of its stores are in medically underserved areas, many rural and underserved communities use Walmart as an initial healthcare touchpoint.

“A new year brings new beginnings, and we want to help people start down their path of wellness,” said Kevin Host, senior vice president of pharmacy at Walmart. “Our Wellness Day events give customers and patients the opportunity to check in on their health in an affordable and convenient way while encouraging meaningful connections with our highly skilled pharmacy teams.”
