In an attempt to resolve the situation, T-Mobile agreed to pay $350 million to address the consequence. When will settlement payments be distributed?

All court proceedings related to the T-Mobile data breach settlement have been concluded, and the expected distribution of settlement payments would commence in April 2025.

This timetable was in perfect accord with reports suggesting that affected customers could receive their funds within weeks.

Who is eligible for the settlement?

Eligibility for the settlement primarily includes individuals who were T-Mobile customers at the time of the data breach on August 16, 2021, and had their personal information leaked. In exchange for a portion of the settlement, the impacted customers were required to complete a claim form by January 23, 2023.

What compensation can eligible claimants expect?

The settlement offers various forms of compensation:

  • Reimbursement for Out-of-Pocket Losses: Eligible claimants can receive up to $25,000 for documented expenses directly resulting from the data breach.
  • Compensation for Lost Time: Claimants may be compensated at a rate of $25 per hour for up to 15 hours spent addressing issues related to the breach.
  • Alternative Cash Payment: For those without documented losses, a cash payment of $25 is available, or $100 for residents of California.

Additionally, all eligible claimants are entitled to two years of identity protection services, including credit monitoring and identity theft insurance.

How will payments be distributed?

Settlements shall be disbursed via PayPal, ACH transfer, Zelle, and Venmo. Claimants who need to update payment information should contact the settlement administrator immediately so as to avoid delays of payment.

What should claimants do now?

If you had a justified claim within January 23, 2023, deadline, do the following:

  • Stay current: Check the official settlement website regularly for the most current information on payment disbursal.
  • Verify payment information: Keep your payment information current to receive your settlement payment on time.

Keep in mind that the process of settlement can take long due to administrative procedures and appeals. However, since court hearings are now final, eligible claimants can expect to receive payments from April 2025 onwards.
