CalFresh is a federal government initiative that provides Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to eligible individuals. Eligibility requirements for CalFresh payment in 2024

To be eligible for these benefits, you are expected to meet certain requirements and these include:

  • Residency:  You must be a resident of California state.
  • Citizen: You must be a U.S citizen. Qualified immigrants and non-immigrants are also considered on meeting certain requirements.
  • Income: Your household income has to be within a certain limit to be considered for receiving benefits. However, there are variations on income limits which largely depends on your household size.
  • Resources: your resources must be below the CalFresh resources limit.
  • Work Requirements: For healthy individuals aged between 18 to 59, you may be expected to work or take part in a training program.
  • Must have a current savings and checking combined bank balance under $3,001
  • You have an older adult aged 60 and above in your household.
  • You have a person with disability in your household either a parent, child, spouse or you.

If you have a person with disability in your household or an older adult aged 60 or above then your eligibility will be based on your net income.

How to receive CalFresh payment

If you are qualified to receive the benefits, your monthly payment will be sent via the Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card. This card will be issued to you on successfully completing your application.  This card is similar to your bank card and can be used to make purchases at grocery stores and the farmer’s market.

CalFresh payment dates in California

CalFresh payment will be distributed from September 1 to September 10 in California. Typically, the date you receive your payment is based on your case number.
