Hurricane Beryl has inflicted damage to property and affected millions of people as it made its way through Texas this week. So far, there have been reports confirming the death of seven citizens due to the impact of the hurricane while millions of people are facing the problem of power outages.

It was due to the severity of the disaster that led to the extension of the food replacement application. Usually when the beneficiaries of SNAP are faced with a crisis such as; a power outage, flooding, or property damage, they are given a maximum of ten days to apply for replacement of SNAP benefits. However, due to the extent of and trauma caused by this natural disaster, the deadline has been extended to August 8.

How to apply for the extra food stamps

To apply for the SNAP replacement benefits:

  1. Dial 211 using your phone and select option 2
  2. Alternatively, you can complete Form H1855 (the Affidavit of Non-receipt Destruction of SNAP Benefits). After completing the form, mail it to the Texas and Human Services Commission, P.O. Box.
