The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced a new Supplemental Security Income (SSI) of $1415 on July 1. The SSI provides assistance to the elderly, blind, or disabled. The people who will receive up to $1,415 are those filing under couples, those filing as individuals receiving $943 and essential persons receiving an additional $472.
What is SSI?
Supplemental Security Income makes provision for a monthly payment of adults and children who have income and resources below specific financial limits. To be qualified for SSI application, you must meet one of the following criteria;
- You are 65 years of age or older
- You are Blind
- You have a medical condition which prevents you from working.
The SSI Payment
The eligible individuals and spouses will receive the monthly maximum Federal amounts. These are $943 and $1,415, respectively. $472 will also be given to essential people.
On the 1st of July, based on the filing category, eligible SSI recipients will receive different payment amounts.
- Individuals: Up to $943 monthly if they meet income and resource criteria.
- Couples: Up to $1,415 monthly if they meet income and resource criteria.
- Essential Persons: Additional payment of $472 if they meet the EP criteria.
SSI Payment Dates
According to the Social Security Administration, the payment is to be made on the first day of every month but if the first day falls on a weekend, the payment will be sent on the last business day of the previous month. These are the upcoming payments:
- July: Monday, 1st
- August: Thursday, 1st
- September: Friday, 30th August
- October: Tuesday, 1st
- November: Friday, 1st
- December: Friday, 29th November
Criteria for SSI Eligibility
Income
This is the money received as wages, Social Security benefits and pensions. In this context, it also involves food and shelter. The place you live has a great role to play, as it helps determine the amount of income you’ll receive each month. The limits for individuals and couples are $2,000 and $3,000, respectively. For the disabled, you must show medical documentation to support your claim.
Part of your spouse’s income and resources is included if you are married. Also, parents’ income and resources are added if the child is under 18.

The resources considered by the SSI included; real estate, bank accounts, cash, stocks and bonds.
Other rules
- In order to qualify for SSL, you must have lived in one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia or the Northern Mariana Islands.
- You must be a US citizen or national.
