The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has recently introduced a new claim status tool which is designed to effectively control the process of checking the status of your veteran claims and payments. This new tool offers veterans an efficient way to monitor their claims to ensure they stay informed about all their benefits. However, some veterans may still struggle to understand how to use this new tool.
How to use the VA claim status tool
To have access to this tool you will need to access it via the official site of the VA. Scroll down to where it is written “Top Pages” from the home page. Tap or click on the “Check your claim, decision review, or appeal status”. Once it opens up, you can sign into your account to use the tool by tapping on the “Sign in or create your account”. If you do not have an account yet, you will be directed on how to create your account via Login.gov or ID.me to access the tool.
Log into your account
To log into your account, you will have to enter your username and password. It is advisable to write down your password in your notepad or journal to ensure you never forget your login details. However, if you are unable to remember your current password, you can request for a new one by tapping on the forgotten password and following through with the process to recover your account.
Your dashboard
Once you have logged into your account, you will be taken to your claim status dashboard. On your dashboard, you will find all your active and past claims. You have the option of viewing all detailed information about each claim, including the status of your application, documents required, and the estimated processing times.
Claim Status
To check the status of any of your specific claims, select the claim from your dashboard. The tool allows you to have a detailed overview, including the current status whether it is pending review, under adjudication or if it is completed, the last day it was updated, and any actions needed on your part by the Veterans Affairs Department (VA). This goes a long way in allowing you to stay up to date on your claim status and to promptly know any steps you may be required to take.
Notifications and Updates
You can set up notifications using the claim status tool. You can select how you intend to receive any of these notifications either by text or via email to make sure you receive all your notifications and updates on time.
How to find out if you have received your veteran payment
You can access your payment status via your account. Additionally you can also receive a direct notification either by text or via email depending on the notification option you chose while setting up your account. To set up a direct text option, follow the following steps:
- Sign into your account
- Tap on your name on the navigation bar
- Select profile
- Search for notifications settings
- Select manage notification settings
- Tap on the payment section
- Check under the disability and pension deposit notifications
- Select notify me by text
Once you follow through with these steps you will receive a direct text notification on all your future payments. However, if you haven’t seen your payment, you can contact VA support.
