The electoral campaign in the United States has been shaken by an assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump. The Republican Party candidate was at a rally in Pennsylvania when shots were heard.

The former president grabbed his ear and quickly ducked down, though he seemed to have a wound on his right ear, which was bleeding. The Secret Service responded, shouting “Get down, get down” repeatedly. Afterward, the Republican candidate was seen being evacuated with what appeared to be blood on his face. From the video footage, it seems the shots hit his right ear but did not cause serious injury.

The candidate was evacuated from the area, not without raising his fist while seemingly shouting to the crowd that had attended his event. The former president’s rally took place in one of the most contested states in an election where the Republican is leading in the polls.

A spokesperson for the Republican campaign said, “President Trump thanks the police and medical personnel for their attention during this horrific event. He is okay and is being treated at a nearby hospital.”

President Joe Biden had just arrived at his residence in Delaware and has been informed of the shooting. At the moment, information about the shooter or shooters is unclear.
