US Presidential Candidates for 2024
The US 2024 presidential election will be the 60th quadrennial election. The election is set to be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The most popular candidates for this election are President Joe Biden and Donald Trump from the Democratic and Republican parties respectively.
Despite being the most popular candidates, they are not the only ones. There are others, both independent candidates and candidates backed by political parties.
Here are the list of other candidates who have declared their interest to contest in the 2024 US presidential election;
- Chase Oliver
Chase Oliver is the presidential nominee of the Libertarian Party. He was nominated during the party’s National Convention in May after winning the primaries. He has also nominated his running mate, Mike ter Maat, an economist from Virginia.
The Libertarian party is considered the third most famous party in the US and so far has ballot access in over 37 states with a total of 380 electoral votes.
The 40-year-old Chase Oliver is the youngest presidential candidate for 2024 as a majority of other candidates are already over 70 years of age. He is a sales executive from Georgia and in 2022, he ran in the US Senate race in Georgia.
Oliver believes in a government that respects the citizen’s rights, this is according to his response on the Ballotpedia’s candidate connection.
- Jill Stein
The 74-year-old doctor and activist has declared her interest to run for the presidential election under the umbrella of the Green party although a formal nomination is yet to be made. She was also the Green Party’s candidate for 2012 and 2016. For 2024, she is yet to announce her running mate and it is believed that her fate will be decided during the Green party’s National Convention in August.
The independent candidates include:
- Robert F Kennedy Jr
He is the nephew of former President John Kennedy. He can be considered a very persistent candidate as he has loomed over national elections a lot more than other candidates. Before now, he was in the Democratic party but withdrew from the primary election and decided to become an independent candidate. Kennedy, who is a 70-year-old environmental lawyer and activist, has chosen Nicole Shanahan, a Silicon Valley lawyer and philanthropist as his running mate.
- Cornel West
The 71-year-old activist and author has decided to run independently for the presidential election in 2024. This was after he announced his candidacy as a member of the People’s Party. Nine days later, he moved to the Green Party and now he has decided to run independently. He has chosen his running mate to be Abdullah, a professor in Pan-African Studies at California State University.
